Christian Aid Week 10th - 16th May 2020

Christian Aid week 11th May 2020 St Mary’s West Chiltington

Hi everyone, I hope you are all well and managing to cope through these difficult, challenging times. Once again it’s May and Christian Aid week is almost upon us.

Congregations at St Mary’s have a long tradition of supporting the work of Christian Aid and many of you will have been involved in and supported Ali Littleboy and I in successfully organising fund raising activities during Christian Aid week.

This year as you would expect, things are very different.

Many of the people who benefit most from Christian Aid donations are from poor communities in poorer countries who receive very little support from their national governments and are at greater risk than ever just now.

As you will know Christian Aid is a Christian charity who work all over the world and support people of all faiths and none. Christian Aid week in 2019 collectively raised £8 million with around 12,000 churches being involved .

We’ve enjoyed some great money raising social events in our church including last years popular ‘desert Island disk’ event with music and laughter and a real sense of community amongst attendees in our beautiful church. We’ve also had a big breakfast and collected and sold things you have provided at numerous car boot sales, all to raise as much as possible.

This year we can’t do any of these things but we would like to continue our commitment by raising as much as possible, bearing in mind peoples changing circumstances.

To find out more about Christian Aid click on the link to their website and please continue our tradition of helping by donating if you are able and willing to do so.

For church members who have access to the internet the process is very straightforward. For those who don’t we’d be delighted to hear from you so that we can organise an easy way to make a payment.

If you qualify as a UK taxpayer please use the Gift Aid facility to increase your donation by 25%.

Thank you in anticipation of your support. I hope by this time next year we are back to as close to normal as we’d want to be and we can revert to more of the fun ways to raise money again.

Many thanks and God bless. Jim Jarvie, Ali Littleboy
